The project

Hathora is a serverless cloud platform for multiplayer games. Built by infrastructure engineers from Palantir, Databricks, and AWS, Hathora provides the tools necessary to build, launch, and scale multiplayer games without downtime.

Our project with Hathora began with a complete, ground-up branding process, which we applied to their new website and present Hathora to the world as the #1 solution for game studios and developers.

The challenge

How can we build a website that convinces users of Hathora’s value for gaming studios while positioning them as innovators?

The Hathora team knows what gaming studios face when it comes to multiplayer game development. Issues with infrastructure keep them from focusing on their game, while many cloud providers don’t meet the use cases for gaming. This is why the Hathora team is so uniquely positioned for their offering: They’re experts in infrastructure and have built multiplayer games themselves, so they’re familiar with the particularities of both industries.

Our challenge when it came to creating Hathora’s website was bringing together their sleek new brand with content, information structure, illustration, and motion UI that would properly inform users of Hathora’s value, while dazzling them with professionalism, innovation, and attention-to-detail. On top of that–We knew we only had two months from the day we began the branding process up until the site was scheduled to go live.

The solution

Getting Hathora’s site up and running with stellar quality on an express timeline

To solve the issue of our tight timeline without losing our characteristic stellar quality, we decided to release a first version of the site with just a few of the essential pages, perfected in order to get the site in front of potential investors right away. The process included:

1. Content-first web design

To convince potential users of the Hathora team’s expertise, it was essential to nail the copy that would anchor the designs and show that the company really knows what they’re doing. We worked with the team to correctly utilize industry-specific language and structure the pages in order to highlight Hathora’s most important features for the developers who use it.

2. Creative UI applications

The goal when applying Hathora’s new branding to the site was to create something that would stand out to game developers, which we did by arranging sections in unique and sometimes unexpected ways, always while highlighting important information. Meanwhile, we included interactive elements like the clickable onboarding process on the home page to invite to interact further with the site and add to the gamelike feel.

3. Custom illustration and motion UI

Hathora’s users aren’t just your average website visitor–They’re game developers who dedicate their lives to creating exciting experiences for gamers. Because of this we knew that we had to include unique visuals to make the site more interesting for gamers, without overcomplicating it. Custom illustrations help users conceptualize the technology behind Hathora while animation gives them a sense of constant advancement and connectivity.

The results

A professional, scalable website, built from the ground-up to make Hathora’s debut to the world

Our work with Hathora culminated in a brand new website that not only launched the platform to potential users worldwide, but also presented their one-of-a-kind offering to potential investors to help them see Hathora’s power and potential. And the proof is in the results: After launch, Hathora obtained a $7.6m Seed from Upfront Ventures and Founders Fund to continue building and expanding their product.

We built this site with scale-ups in mind–Once it was launched, we continued working together to add more pages and get the site to where it is today. This way, Hathora has the power to continue building out and improving their site as they continue evolving.
